Can I Downsize and Still Stay Near the Beach in Huntington Beach?
A lot of homeowners assume downsizing means giving up the lifestyle they love. One of the things I love about Huntington Beach is the variety of housing. Alongside larger family homes, you will find condos and townhomes, smaller beach cottages, single-story homes and newer construction. That variety creates a wide range of price points, which is not true of every coastal city, and it is what lets many longtime residents move into less house without leaving the coast.
One couple I helped had spent 41 years in their Orange County home. We built a step-by-step plan, sold their longtime home, and they bought a Huntington Beach condo.
Why coastal downsizing appeals to homeowners
Many of my clients prioritize:
- Being close to the beach, the pier and the bike paths
- Outdoor living
- A smaller home with less maintenance

Lifestyle often becomes the priority
Instead of focusing on square footage, many downsizers start focusing on simplicity, freedom, daily routines and enjoyment. A condo or townhome with a community pool, or a single-level home in an older neighborhood, can deliver all of that.
